John, an expert in all areas of income, trust, gift and estate taxation, has over 30 years of experience working with small to medium size businesses and high net worth and high income individuals. John’s substantive experience includes tax research, planning and compliance in all phases of corporate, partnership and individual income tax engagements; all phases of estate, gift and trust planning and compliance; representation of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service with regard to examination and collection matters; all phases of financial statement compilation and review engagements; and QuickBooks set-up, maintenance and review.
John began his career at Ernst & Whinney in Toledo, OH (now Ernst & Young), in 1986. John later relocated to Cleveland and joined Hausser & Taylor as a Senior Tax Manager and was promoted to Director before leaving to start his own firm. Since its inception in 2005, J. Hall & Associates, Inc., has provided a full range of personalized tax and accounting services to businesses and individuals in a broad array of business sectors and areas.
John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Toledo in 1986, and a Master of Taxation degree from the University of Akron in 1998. In addition, he acquired his Certified Public Accountant license and certification in 1987. John is a current member of the Tax Division of the American Institute of CPAs; the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants; the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland; the Tax Club of Cleveland, and is currently the Treasurer of North Coast Youth Adventures, Inc., a non-profit boys youth organization. John is also currently a member of the Avon Lake Income Tax Review Board and has served in this position for over 15 years. John is the past Treasurer of the Ohio Chapter of the American Liver Foundation and a past Treasurer of the Avon Lake Soccer Organization. John has served on the American Institute of CPA’s national committee for C Corporation and Shareholder Taxation. John is also a past Chairman of the Tax Committee of the Cleveland Chapter of the Ohio Society of CPAs, and a past President of the Avon Lake Chapter of Network Professionals, Inc.
