John Hall has over 30 years in-depth experience working with high net-worth individuals and small to medium sized businesses and their owners. John began his career in 1986 at Ernst & Whinney in Toledo, Ohio, which later merged with Arthur Young to form Ernst & Young. While at Ernst & Young, John rose through the ranks to the level of Tax Manager. In 1992, John relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. After working three years at a regional Cleveland based accounting firm, John joined Hausser & Taylor, LLC as a Senior Manager. John remained at Hausser & Taylor until 2006, achieving the level of Director. During that time Hausser & Taylor was acquired first by American Express Tax and Business Services, Inc., and then subsequently by RSM McGladrey, Inc. After the RSM McGladrey acquisition, John left the firm and founded J. Hall & Associates, Inc.
John’s experience includes tax research, planning and compliance in all phases of corporate, partnership and individual income tax engagements; all phases of estate, gift and trust planning and compliance; representation of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service with regard to examination and collection matters; all phases of financial statement compilation and review engagements, and
QuickBooks set-up, maintenance and review. John advises clients on many complicated tax issues involving mergers, acquisitions and divestitures,
S corporations, closely-held corporations, partnerships, individuals, and estate, gift and trust planning and compliance.
John holds a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from the University of Toledo (1986) and a Master of Taxation degree from the University of Akron (1998). He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1987, and is a member of the Tax Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants; the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland; and the Tax Club of Cleveland. In addition, John is currently the Treasurer of the Ohio Chapter of the American Liver Foundation, has served on the American Institute of CPA’s national committee on C Corporation and Shareholder Taxation, and is a member of the City of Avon Lake Income Tax Review Board. He is also a past multiple term Chairman of the Tax Committee of the Cleveland Chapter of the Ohio Society of CPAs, and is a past President of the Avon Lake Chapter of Network Professionals, Inc.
